Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate and reliable CTO who can help guide and support the technical evolution of Roots Marketplace.
This role is ideal for someone who is:
• Experienced or confident in web technologies
• Passionate about representation, accessibility and tech-for-good
• Interested in joining a fast-growing startup at an early stage
• Open to becoming a long-term member of our team
This role will be voluntary for the first 6 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent and exploring equity based on performance. With a £3.29 billion obtainable market, Roots Marketplace is strongly positioned to grow into a million-pound company.
We will conduct monthly performance/support check-ins, scheduled in advance around your availability.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the founders in maintaining the digital platform and ensuring smooth operation.
• Advise on technical decision-making, upgrades and integrations across the platform.
• Help ensure security, reliability and user-data protection.
• Support new feature rollouts and help troubleshoot issues.
• Communicate clearly with the leadership team and be involved in strategic technical planning.
• Help support a smooth handover of tasks when working with the business data verification specialist.

Roots Marketplace is growing quickly, and we are looking for a reliable, organised and detail-oriented person to help ensure that businesses listed on our platform are accurately presented, up-to-date and verified.
You will also play a role in reaching out to businesses, gathering information, and helping populate our directory and booking system.
This is a highly social, interactive role — ideal for someone who enjoys talking to people, researching businesses, and supporting community growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Review, verify and update business data on the Roots platform
• Add new businesses to our directory and booking system
• Reach out to businesses to gather information and encourage them to join our platform
• Ensure accuracy of business details, services, location, pricing and contact info
• Communicate with the founders about updates or issues
• Help maintain a clean, consistent, high-quality database
• Report errors or missing information
• Attend periodic team check-ins for alignment and support
We will provide a tutorial and onboarding session so you feel fully confident using the platform.
